Complete your property interior survey electronically when our field specialist was unable to access your home during a scheduled site inspection. Your response helps ensure your assessment is accurate and fair.
A door hanger or written notice was left at your property by a Porter County Assessor field specialist. You are required to complete this survey within 30 days of the date noted on that notice. Failure to respond may result in an estimated assessment based on available data.
Indiana counties are required under IC 6-1.1-4 to periodically assess all real property at its true tax value. As part of this process, the Porter County Assessor's Office conducts routine field inspections to verify and update interior property characteristics information that directly affects your property's assessed value and, in turn, your tax bill.
When a field data collection specialist visits your property and is unable to gain entry, they leave a physical door hanger notice requesting that you complete this survey. The Online Door Hanger (ODH) is the electronic version of that survey, allowing you to conveniently submit your interior property information such as finished square footage, number of rooms, heating and cooling systems, recent improvements, and construction quality from any device, at any time.
Once submitted, your information is reviewed by Assessor staff. If the data differs materially from the current assessment record, corrections may be applied consistent with Indiana's Cost Approach valuation model. You will be notified of any resulting changes to your assessed value.
